Mr. Willem Dedden is a Port, Coastal and River Expert with a MSc. Degree of Civil Engineering, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands and concluded an Advanced Management Program, Harvard Business School, USA. He has a professional career of more than 40 years, of which more than 25 years in the ports and waterway transport business. Before joining the Port of Rotterdam (POR) in 1997 he worked with a number of consultancy firms in the field of hydraulics, offshore and civil engineering. Within POR, Mr. Dedden fulfilled several functions, including some at senior management level such as Director of Infrastructure, responsible for the execution of Port of Rotterdam’s infrastructure project portfolio. Mr. Dedden has also worked as senior project manager within POR’s International department (Porint), responsible for Porint’s projects portfolio in Middle East (Oman), Asia (Vietnam, Myanmar and Indonesia) and Australia. In recent years he took up the role of Chief Executive Officer of Zero Emission Services, a Joint Venture from POR with ING, ENGIE and Wartsila. He was responsible for the successful delivery of the Proof of Concept of providing a zero-emission solution for inland shipping through swappable battery containers on a pay-per-use basis. Lastly he worked on a number of projects developing multi-party cooperation models and executing feasibility studies, aiming to establish (green) hydrogen import flows to the Port of Rotterdam.
Mr. Dedden’s specific fields of expertise are feasibility studies, (boardroom) consultancy, project development, project management, business development, strategic and operational advice, review of plans (related to ports, industrial areas, supply chains, spatial development), setting up strategic cooperation’s and setting up port management JV’s. Relevant disciplines include technical, financial, economic, environmental, HSE, operational and contractual.
