Description
In view of the special long-term challenges for development outcomes presented by climate change and natural hazards, the Government of Bangladesh has decided to formulate a long-term Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 (BDP 2100). BDP 2100 is the plan for moving Bangladesh forward towards the end of 21st century, looking primarily at the medium-term delta agenda 2016 – 2040. The BDP 2100 seeks to integrate the short-to medium term aspirations of Bangladesh to achieve upper middle income (UMIC) status and eliminate extreme poverty by the year 2031 with the longer-term challenge of sustainable management of water, ecology, environment and land resources in the context of their interaction with natural disasters and climate change.
The Government of Bangladesh is firmly committed to the implementation of national-level strategic plans such as the Five Year Plans and Perspective Plan and also highly committed to meet the targets under Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, the formulation and approval of BDP 2100 is only the first step towards achieving safe, climate resilient and prosperous delta, while challenges lie with its successful implementation such as proper ensuring financing structures, effective governance and institutions, decision making alignment and technical aspects. As such, overcoming those challenges, implies following specific principles/ implementations framework, among which “Support to the Implementation of BDP 2100” – project taken for the capacity building of the relevant professionals and institutionalization of BDP 2100 principles essential for the effective and successful implementation of the plan.
